Who Picks Songs for Dancing With the Stars
Celebrities from every background have been coming on Dancing with the Stars for many seasons now. Some of them have music and dancing experience, therefore, they dominated the competition. But that's certainly not the case for everyone.
There have been many celebrities who come from other backgrounds like science or politics, so they don't know their way around the dance floor. So who were the worst dancers to try and win the mirrorball trophy? Here are the 25 worst contestants ever on the show.
25. D.L. Hughley
D.L. Hughley and Cheryl Burke on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The comedian and actor was on Season 16 and was partnered with Cheryl Burke. He managed to make it to week five but it was the tango that did him in. Although he improved over the weeks, he was still pretty stiff and thinking more than having fun. Tonioli even said his salsa made him look like he required a "hip replacement."
When asked about his feelings about being eliminated he said, "I don't have any disappointment," according to Today. "I'd have to have some level of expectation, and I don't. I don't see things the way they do." He also seemed to let the judges' comments roll off his back.
"I know how to deal with hecklers," he continued. "But I think they obviously have a way of doing things, and I don't fit into that. That's just how it is." However, it does look like something got under his skin because he went on to compare the judges' feedback to "verbal assault."
24. Trista Sutter
Trista Sutter and Louis Van Amstel on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The Bachelorettestar joined the cast in Season 1 and danced with Louis Van Amstel. She only made it to week two after performing the rumba to "Endless Love." Her performances were pretty boring, which is probably why she was eliminated so quickly.
23. Paulina Porizkova
Paulina Porizkova and Alec Mazo on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The supermodel was on the show in Season 4 and was partnered with Alec Mazo. She only made it to week two and performed the mambo before getting eliminated.
The gorgeous model didn't quite have the energy to match other contestants and she got pretty average scores. Fans most likely just didn't feel compelled to vote for her.
22. Josie Maran
Josie Maran and Alec Mazo on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The actress joined the cast in Season 5 and danced with Alec Mazo. She was on the show for only one week where she performed the fox trot. She was torn apart by the judges who critiqued her footwork and her control. It was apparent to them that Josie Maran wasn't a natural dancer.
21. Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian and Mark Ballas on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The reality star made it on the show in Season 7 and was partnered with Mark Ballas. She managed to make it a little longer in the competition for her performance of the fox trot and the mambo. However, during her time on the show she never got anything over a score of seven.
20. Kim Zolciak
Kim Zolciak and Tony Dovolani on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The reality star went on the show in Season 21 and was partnered with Tony Dovolani. She performed three times before getting eliminated during the third week.
She did show some improvement from her first dance, which was scored a 12 because she couldn't keep up with the energetic music. However, it wasn't enough.
19. Kenny Mayne
Kenny Mayne and Andrea Hale on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The former football player went on the show in Season 2 and was partnered with Andrea Hale. His first dance was the cha-cha to "Hot Stuff," and it got cold reviews. He received a four from Carrie Ann Inaba, a five from Goodman, and a four from Tonioli.
In the end, he was the first contestant to get eliminated.
18. Kate Gosselin
Kate Gosselin on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
TheKate Plus 8star was on Season 10 and was partnered with Tony Dovolani. She managed to make it five weeks before getting eliminated doing the fox trot. She never received a score from a judge that was above a six, a rating that she only got four times during her tenure on the show.
17. Steve Wozniak
Steve Wozniak on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The Apple co-founder put on his dancing shoes for Season 8 and was partnered with Karina Smirnoff. They made it through four weeks together, but their last performance was the worst. They received four points from all three judges and were sent home.
16. Tucker Carlson
Tucker Carlson and Elena Grinenko dancing on Dancing With the Stars | ABC
The political commentator joined the cast in Season 3 and was partnered with Elena Grinenko. He was only able to perform the cha-cha to "Dancing in the Street," which received 12 points. Tonioli slapped the pair with only three points before they were eliminated.
15. Mischa Barton
Mischa Barton and Artem Chigvintsev on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The O.C.actress competed in Season 22 and was partnered with Artem Chigvintsev. She managed to make it to week three where she performed the samba to "Party in the U.S.A.," but not without drama. She had an argument with her dance partner on screen after getting negative feedback from the judges. Even though week three was her best week yet with her first score of six from the judges, it wasn't enough to keep her on the show.
14. Chaka Khan
Chaka Khan on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The singer has made some great dance music, so it might be surprising that she made the list. She was on the show in Season 21 and was partnered with Keo Motsepe. She made it to the second week but was eliminated after she was given a score of 15 for the fox trot. Unfortunately, she missed a few steps and wasn't synced with her partner.
13. Evander Holyfield
Evander Holyfield and Edyta Sliwinska on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The boxer was on the show in Season 1 and had Edyta Sliwinska as his dance partner. He made it three weeks before getting eliminated for his jive. His performance on the show actually wasn't that bad until he started struggling with the quickstep and the jive.
12. Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino
Mike Sorrentino and Karina Smirnoff on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
TheJersey Shorestar was on the show in Season 11 and danced with Karina Smirnoff. He actually made it four weeks on the show, but somehow got worse as time went on. His last dance was the Argentine tango, which got him eliminated.
11. Bill Nye
Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein | ABC
Bill Nye the Science Guy joined the show in Season 17 and many fans were excited to see him perform. Sadly, he was eliminated during the third week, which disappointed many. Nye was pretty stiff and awkward on the dance floor, but still totally lovable.
10. Jeffrey Ross
Jeffrey Ross on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The comedian took a break from roasts and tried winning the mirrorball trophy in Season 7. He was partnered with Edyta Sliwinska.
They performed the cha-cha to "Play That Funky Music." He got four points from three judges and was quickly eliminated.
9. David Hasselhoff
David Hasselhoff on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
TheBaywatchactor joined the cast in Season 11 and was partnered with Kym Johnson. Their first dance was the cha-cha to "Sex Bomb," and they pretty much bombed. They got a score of five from each of the judges and were the first pair to be eliminated.
8. Michael Bolton
Michael Bolton on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The singer went on the show in Season 11 and was partnered with Chelsie Hightower. He was able to make it one week longer than Hasselhoff and performed the jive during the second week. He received 12 points from the judges, the lowest score coming from Tonioli who referred to the dance as "the worst jive in 11 seasons" before getting eliminated.
7. Tom DeLay
Tom DeLay and Cheryl Burke on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The Former U.S. House majority leader joined the cast in Season 9 of the show and danced with Cheryl Burke. He made it to week three of the show before withdrawing due to fractures in his feet. He was given the low score of four twice on the show, one of them for his last performance.
6. Cloris Leachman
Cloris Leachman and Corky Ballas on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The Oscar winner was a member of the cast in Season 7 and danced with Corky Ballas. She managed to make it six weeks on the show before getting eliminated. That had a lot to do with fan support and the effort she put into her dances.
She did best with the salsa and tango, but there was no way she was going to impress the judges with hip-hop.
5. Jerry Springer
Jerry Springer and Kym Johnson dancing on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The former television host put on his dancing shoes for Season 3 of Dancing with the Stars and danced with Kym Johnson. He actually made it to week seven of the show, which probably says more about the effort he put into the dances and viewer support than his actual dancing ability.
He was stiff most of the time, but had fun and people loved his performances.
4. Geraldo Rivera
Geraldo Rivera and Edyta Sliwnska on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The Fox News correspondent was on the show in Season 22 and was partnered with Edyta Sliwinska. He only made it two weeks before getting bumped off. His last performance was the salsa to "Ran Kan Kan."
The dance was painful, from his awkward political skit to his stiff moves, giving Geraldo Rivera a score of 13.
3. Buzz Aldrin
Buzz Aldrin and Ashly DelGrosso-Costa on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The former NASA astronaut decided to step out on the dance floor in Season 10 with Ashly DelGrosso-Costa as his partner. They made it to the third week, but the waltz is what got him eliminated.
Fans of the show cheered him on, but he obviously struggled with the steps and was plagued with a low score from the judges.
2. Chris Kattan
Chris Kattan and Witney Carson on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The comedian joined the cast in Season 24 and was partnered with Witney Carson. He only made it to the second week where he performed jazz to "Hey Ya!"
To be fair, Chris Kattan was at a disadvantage because he came in with an injured neck so that affected his performance.
1. Master P
Master P and Ashly DelGrosso on Dancing with the Stars | ABC
The rapper joined the show in Season 2 and was partnered with Ashly DelGrosso-Costa. This was actually unplanned because his son, Lil' Romeo was supposed to join the cast but was injured and could no longer do it. So Mater P definitely gets points for unexpectedly taking the gig.
He made it four weeks but is still remembered as one of the worst stars to dance on the show, often receiving only four points from each judge. His last performance was the pasodoble and he got a score of two from both Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli.
"I know people were going to make fun of me and laugh," the father said, according to NY Daily News, "but I say it's worth it because I wanted to make sure that we brought that light and hopefully bring some of the people back together. And it worked."
