This isn't what the original was. Its been modernised. Its not actually a traditional music box with the chimes, it operates via buttons and a recording of the chimes played through a speaker. The sound is poor and the mechanism for turning the record was not very good either, it didn't been work on a couple of the records - but the music still played. You don't even need the records. The record head has four pressable buttons which line up with four ridge positions on the discs. Each disc no longer has "bumps" for notes, but instead simply has a combination of four continuous ridges. The memory chip identifies which disc is being played by the ridges depressing the buttons
The wind-up still turns the disc manually, but all it does is tell the speaker to play while turning. I had one as a kid and bought this for my boy - I've now sent it back. Boo Fisher price Boo for ruining a beautiful classic!

Don't buy this if you want the classic, get an original on EBAY instead. This is not the 'classic re-released'. The joy of the original was that it was purely mechanical and analogue, and you could see how the bumpy records made music like in a music box. This new version uses smooth records and a digital recording. That joy of seeing things really work has gone.

If it's a classic why change the whole concept? This version, unlike the original which at a glance it looks just like, is battery operated and the sounds are electronic. The pick-up head and the wind-up mechanism are fakes. Definitely not the classic Fisher Price record player.

I'm so disappointed. Bought this for my child's birthday as I had one. But mine was a proper, purely wind up one. They've reissued it as the same but it isn't. It's dreadful, I'm really angry but so disappointed. Too late to return it as I bought it ahead of his birthday. One very unhappy customer.

If they had sold it as an updated version I'd not have bought it, but they claimed it was a reissue.

Very disappointed, nothing like the original. Bought it for my Grandaughter as my children had so much pleasure from the original. Very poor quality for a fisher price toy. What is the point in having batteries and having to wind it. The joy of the original was winding it up and no batteries. It's a good job the tunes are printed on the discs or you wouldn't have a clue what it was playing.

Such a huge disappointment. It looks the part but is actually nothing like the original. They've managed to create a cheap knock off version of their own product, only that the price tag would lead you to believe otherwise. The original was a beautiful mechanical thing where everything had a function and it all worked well. This however is basically just a battery operated speaker with decoration, just cheap and nasty and very very lazy of fisher prices. I really regret buying it

I bought this for my grandson at Christmas but decided to keep it till his 2nd birthday, which was yesterday. Put batteries in but it doesn't work, great disappointment all rounds - he loves music and I thought it would be a great present.
I can't see how to send it back or where - to Amazon or makers??

Thought this was a replacement for the original Fisher Price record player but the plastic is different and it needs batteries to power the music. The turntable is clockwork but has a short play time. Not as good as the original
